Strange Rules performance in Venice and Festival d’Avignon keynote
July is an exciting month for Operator.
Closing Keynote — Festival d'Avignon, July 9th
On July 9th, we deliver the closing keynote of Spectacle Vivant, Scènes Numériques (SVSN) at Festival d'Avignon, the heart of the world's leading theater festival, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. SVSN is a prominent event exploring the convergence of live performance and digital arts. The subject of the keynote is our Performance Operating System, an open architecture we developed that encodes every parameter needed to restage a performance permanently (without a gatekeeper) so that a work can be brought alive again anywhere, by anyone, indefinitely.
Performance — Strange Rules, Palazzo Diedo, Venice, July 23rd
On July 23rd, we are showing a new performance as part of Strange Rules at Berggruen Institute’s Palazzo Diedo in Venice, a groundbreaking exhibition on protocol art curated by Mat Dryhurst, Holly Herndon, and Hans Ulrich Obrist. Human Unreadable: Body Not Included is a new performance that exposes the choreographic infrastructure of our work Human Unreadable, deploying the outputs of the Human Unreadable algorithm as raw material for a live performance the algorithm specifies but cannot itself perform. The work foregrounds the tension between instruction and enactment, system and subject, protocol and embodiment. The performances are site-specific and will be presented within Attention Guild, the ongoing installation by Mat Dryhurst and Holly Herndon, in collaboration with SUB.
Dancers: Santiago Sánchez Ramirez and Valentine Peruch

It was wonderful to reconnect with many of you at Non Fungible Conference in Lisbon for the premiere of our Performance Operating System talk and the exhibition of Human Unreadable as part of Arab Bank Switzerland’s SYSTEMS exhibition curated by Nina Roehrs. Finally, if you are a Human Unreadable collector, mark November 18–22 in your calendar and if at all possible, consider being in New York City at that time. More on that in the coming weeks!
